THE STORY

I have always been a morning person. A good day starts with a cup of coffee, when the sun is still coming up and the house is quiet. Then, I became a mother. Late nights, coffee stained shirts, and a chaotic house became my new normal.

Like my son, The Sleepy Owl was born in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Although I had my hands full with a small infant and a deployed husband, I found I still missed working. Unfortunately, current circumstances did not allow me to return to the love of my previous line of work in the veterinary field.

It was then that I began to contemplate turning a current hobby into a business. At the time, I enjoyed hand painting signs and making apparel for friends and family with what little free time I had to spare. With encouragement from those close to me and with the guidance and help from my sweet friend, a successful small business owner herself, I started my dream.

In the beginning, by daylight I was full-time mommy, caring for my infant and taking care of our home while my husband was deployed and, by moonlight, I was a working mom. I still enjoyed waking early to get the worm, but the only time to spare for painting was after my boy was asleep in his crib, late at night, making this mommy a very sleepy night owl.

Today, some things have changed, but much remains the same. We are now located in beautiful Knoxville, Tennessee, back East where we know is home. Still fueled by coffee, I continue to love painting and creating quality pieces for other families to admire and enjoy for years to come.
